FSC certified Cornis from the Congo, Central Africa

Dense close grained strong hardwood with a durability of up to 10 years with 3 year manufacturers warranty. It is  brown and each piece of furniture has an oiled finish giving it a smooth lustre. Our FSC® MIX Certified Cornis timber comes from The Congo in Central Africa. Our Cornis has been preoiled at the factory to give the furniture a more uniform colour. If left untreated it will go darker first then mellow to silver/grey. We recommend the use of Cornis oil.

Latin name: khaya senegalensis

Maintenance:

Can be left for the 1st season without treating, will start to weather down between 6-9 months.

After the 1st season, clean down with Alexander Rose Timber Cleaner which you apply to wet furniture to remove atmospheric dirt.

Dry completely, then apply Cornis Oil, which is specifically for Cornis. It is the same treatment as used in the factory, so will retain the original colour.

Black spotting can occur through tannic acid which is present in the timber or by natural airborne spores. Should this happen to your furniture which is not unusual, it will not affect the strength, durability or quality of the wood, it’s not a manufacturing defect and is purely cosmetic which can easily be removed by applying a mould remover such as Dettol or Cillit Bang which is available at all supermarkets and hardware stores. Remove using a thin bristle brush until the spots have vanished. Do not use soapy water to clean black spotting.
